Help, my students marks are wrong!

Whilst we hope this doesn't happen often, there are a few scenarios in which a student's marks could be wrong. Here's how to diagnose and fix these situations. If you're not sure or need help, you can always email our support team on uni-support@groklearning.com

The crucial pieces of Grok that factor into a students' marks are:

  • Points on the problem
  • The date of the submission relative to the due date of the problem
  • The scoring type of the course

If you're using LTI, then the LTI link and LTI scoring function are also important in ensuring that students marks are correctly sent back to your LMS.

My student has incorrect marks on Grok

1. Check the points

If you find a student who has incorrect marks, the first thing to check is that your ModuleProblem has the correct points assigned to it.

This FAQ explains how to add points / check points: How do I add points to my problem?

If the points are incorrect compared to what you expect, we need to:

  1. Update the points to be correct - you can do this yourself, or ask us to do it
  2. Email Grok support to request a "Re-mark" of this problem.

2. Check the due date

If the points are correct, the next thing to check is the due date for the problem. Depending on the scoring type (see below), submissions after the due date may not be eligible for points. If the due date is wrong or has been changed, this can lead to an incorrect mark.

The due date for a problem is determined by the End date on the module. The following FAQs give you more info about setting / changing due dates:

If the due date is incorrect compared to what you expect, we need to:

  1. Update the due date to be correct - you can do this yourself, or ask us to do it
  2. Email Grok support to request a "Remark" of this problem.

3. Check the scoring type

If the points and the due date are correct, the next thing to check is the scoring type for the course. The scoring type and how to set / change it are described in this FAQ: How are points scored?

If the due date is incorrect compared to what you expect, we need to:

  1. Update the due date to be correct - you can do this yourself, or ask us to do it
  2. Email Grok support to request a "Remark" of this problem.

My student has inconsistent marks between Grok and my LMS

If you are using LTI and there is an inconsistency between a students' marks on Grok and your LMS, here's what you can check. If your students' marks on Grok are incorrect, see the above steps first.

1. Check the LTI scoring function

The LTI scoring function determines the calculation method for sending marks from Grok to your LMS. The LTI scoring function is described in this FAQ, in the section called "How do I set up marks to send back to my LMS?"

If the LTI scoring function is incorrect compared to what you expect, we need to:

  1. Update the LTI scoring function to be correct - you can do this yourself, or ask us to do it
  2. Email Grok support to request a "Remark" of this problem.

2. Check the LTI link is working

The best way to check that the link is working is to

  • Click on the LTI link in the LMS and confirm that you arrive at the correct place in Grok (eg. check that you're in the correct semester / correct version of the course).
  • Then, go to the LTI info page on Grok:
    • Find the course module that matches where you intended your LTI link to go
    • Check that there's only one LTI Resource listed in the table

If you don't end up at the right place when you click on the LTI link from your LMS, contact Grok support to help you resolve. Similarly, if there's more than one LTI resource listed in the table on the LTI info page, contact Grok support to resolve.
