How do I link my Grok course to my Canvas course?
Canvas courses can link to Grok material through our support of the LTI interface.
This only applies to custom content that you are hosting on Grok. Our publicly available content for schools currently can't be linked in this way.
Linking your Grok CourseModules to Modules, Assignments, or Quizzes in Canvas is a three step process:
- Install the Grok Learning EduApp
- Attach the Grok app to your Canvas objects
- Choose a target CourseModule for your LTI links
Step 1. Install the Grok Learning EduApp
Depending on your permissions in Canvas, you might not have the ability to install a new external app. If this is the case, you will need to provide these pieces of information to your local Canvas Administrator so can install the app for you.
On the Canvas course, click on "Settings", then "Apps", then select the Grok Learning app:
Click Add App to install:
Finally, click Add App to install the Grok Learning external tool:
Step 2. Attach the Grok app to your Canvas objects
Once you've installed the Grok Learning app, you need to link each of your Canvas resources (Assignments, Quizzes, etc.) to the appropriate Grok CourseModule.
2.1. How to link a Canvas Module to a Grok CourseModule
Click on "+" next to the module to insert the content for the Module.
Select "External Tool" as the thing to insert into the module. Select the Grok Learning app from the list.
Choose an appropriate name for the content (eg. Week 1).
Make sure you select "Load in a new tab".
Click "Add Item" to create the LTI link.
2.2. How to link a Canvas Assignment to a Grok CourseModule
Open the Assignment in Canvas and then click on Edit:
Scroll down to "Submission Type" and select "External Tool". Click on "Find" to open the list of apps installed in your Canvas course.
Choose the Grok Learning app from the list:
Make sure you tick "Load this tool in a new tab". Scroll to the bottom of the page and press Save.
The Canvas Assignment will now have a link to open itself as a LTI link to Grok.
Step 3. Choose a target CourseModule for your LTI link
Click the LTI link, which will open Grok in a new window.
The LTI resource link will appear on the LTI Info page under the target module, where you can remove or edit it:
